In 2000, backed by over 35 years of clinical and empirical research, Dr. Neil Clarke Warren, clinical psychologist, launched eHarmony. It was the first relationship service on the Web to use a scientific approach to match single people looking for serious long-term relationships, particularly marriage. It has over 20 million registered members and has been responsible for over 100,000 marriages.
eHarmony is an online dating website grounded in relationship science that matches single men and women for long-term relationships, particularly marriage. Unlike the approaches of conventional dating services--browsing classified ads, online personals, or viewing profile photos--eHarmony’s Compatibility Matching System narrows the field from thousands of single prospects to match you with a select group of compatible matches with whom you can build a quality relationship, and gives you the option of managing your initial interaction with those people (“Guided Communication” option). The likelihood of a potential lifelong partner being within that small pool, however, is fairly high, given that they are so tightly screened.
For those really looking for a soul-mate, and who are happy to let technology take the lead, this may be the ideal dating website.
At the core of the site’s functionality is eHarmony’s personality-profiling questionnaire. This questionnaire must be completed regardless of whether you sign up as a free or as a paying member. It is a long (400+ questions) and fairly time-consuming (set aside 40 minutes) form, which probes deeply in order to carefully gauge a member’s values, ideals, beliefs and preferences. Once the test is complete, members are given a report of the results, and these results are then placed on the members' profile. Members have the option to add their own information and preferences and can also upload a photo.
The website offers a number of communication features depending on the plan the member has chosen. These include messaging, alerts, icebreakers, and real-time online chatting.
eHarmony is a highly secure online dating service. Profiles are completely private from non-members and members can choose to remain completely anonymous. Members are able to use blocking features to prevent unwanted contact. All contact details remain private and the website offers lots of tips and information on how to date in safely both on and off-line.

Ease of Use:
eHarmony is a very easy site to navigate. Tabs label sections and allow swift movement from one section of the site to another.. The overall feel of the website could perhaps best be described as serious, but approachable, with a very “clean” feel about it. The website offers lots of peripheral information on dating, using the site and how to get the most from its features. A pleasing interface that has been very well thought-out.
eHarmony’s approach to matching is different to most other sites. After filling in the survey and signing up for the site you’ll get a list of potential partners based on your questionnaire results. The eHarmony system is excellent at presenting you with singles who perhaps aren’t the sort you’d normally interact with, but who there’s a great deal of reason to believe could be the perfect partner for you. Once you’ve found a potential partner on eHarmony you’re interested in contacting, the site leads you through a “guided communication” process. This process involves you and your potential match sending each other your answers to a number of pre-written questions, whereby you reveal to each other your strongest preferences while getting advice from eHarmony’s founder, Dr. Neil Clark Warren, based on your personality profiles. Every step is voluntary, and you can drop out and pursue communication with another potential match at any time. This process is eHarmony’s biggest selling point, and is very popular, and frequently, uncannily accurate.
eHarmony got me back into living
I am a widower and was unclear of how to start dating again. I was married to my wife for over 30 years, but found that I was lonely. I was referred to eHarmony by my son who was also a member. I didn't know how to do anything. I am very grateful that I joined. I met a woman called Jamie who changed my life and taught me how to live my life again. It's really felt great. Again, thank you.
enjoying life again!
eHarmony is a God Send. When I got divorced I was terrified because I had no idea about dating. I felt like I was the only single person in the world. All of my friends were married, everyone I worked with was female, I was not a bar person and online dating scared the hell out of me. But eHarmony changed all that. It made me feel really comfortable and knew exactly what to do. I am in a really great relationship and enjoying it!!!
you can teach an old dog!
Amazing! eHarmony has completely changed my outlook on dating. I'm no longer waiting for something happen or waiting for that special someone to magically appear. It has given me the tools, confidence and charisma to make it happen for myself. I couldn't believe after all the years of training people for a job, a website used the same concepts on me!
